Assessment Roll of Fredericksburgh Township
Lennox & Addington County
1808





The assessment was transcribed from The Ontario Register Volume III which originally copied it in September 1938 from a family book recording genealogical data on the Dafoe family which was compiled in 1917 by William Allen Dafoe, M.D., of Madoc, Ontario.

The following notation ended the original list. "I do certify that the above is a true copy of the Assessment of Fredericksburgh for the year 1808, John Jayne and Peter Fredrick, the Assessors; Allen MacLean, Clerk of Peace, Midland District."

The assessment lists:

1. uncultivated acreage
2. acreage cultivated
3. type of buildings; round log buildings (rl), square timber building (sq)
4. horses (h)
5. cattle (c)
6. swine (s)

In the original text there was an entry under "assessment," which has been left out and cattle was listed into three categories which were combined in this listing. Next to the assessment for George Carscallen was "entry crossed out" and Stephan Young was listed as "no possessions".  Under a separate titled "Omissions" were listed Darius Dunham, Laurence Dunavin, John Dumond, Richard Fitchett, Jacob Fralick, La Chaairah Fralick, George Forshee, James O'Reilly, Cornelius Oliver, Augustus Shorts, and finally Thomas Wager.  David Bradshaw has had his name corrected from David Bradsahw in the original Ontario Register document, all other names are as originally listed.  The lists have been combined and put into alphabetical order for ease of use.  The original order was not of any purpose.  Totals for the township are shown at the bottom and were not listed in the original document.

Accuracy was double checked but the eyes sometimes see what they want so if in doubt check against the original document at the archives.

A descendant of the Hernes family has kindly pointed out that the original transcript copied in 1938 had their family incorrectly transcribed as "Heines".  I totally agree and I have now corrected this error in the transcript below. Thank you Bonnie. JGK
